Ok....

I know I have been MIA....

So here is my list of reasons ~~excuses~~

for being gone for sooooo long.

1) I have been sick for 2 weeks(and yes, it seemed like forever).

I guess thats basically it.

I love reading lists on other people blogs...

So here are a few things about me....

1)My favorite color is purple....but I don't have to have "everything" purple(just most things)

2) My oldest child turned 30 last week,I can't be old enough to have a child this age...

3) My youngest with be 11 this year

4) Been in Montana since 1987

5) Love my all wheel Mini Van

6) I am content to stay at home(most days)

7) Love to get a "good deal"

8) Clip coupons...my Mom even calls me weekly to "do" coupons. 8~)

9) I rarely "cook"....but I can fry some "mean" chicken

10) Love to do "crafty" things (this was passed on to me from my Mom)

11) Live in a VERY old house...which can be frustrating

12) Have at least 10 SCENTSY warmers in my house(most are being used)

13) ♥Love♥ teaching my 4&5 year old Sunday School Class

14) My husband and a grandson were born on February 14

15) Will eat spaghettie noodles only with Parmesan Cheese (my Mom let me)

16)I Drink at least 4 cups of my Lemon green energy tea in my "special" mug each day.

17) I have a "basic" cell phone....but texting with it more than talk

18) Do the FlyLady.net plan....most days(you may want to also)

19) I have no sisters of my own...but have many "sisters" in the Lord.

20) I love the Lord Jesus Christ with all my ♥heart♥

It "tried to" earlier today...

My 10 year old son was "bored" a few hours ago...

he wanted to watch a movie...

I said not "that" movie.

He was not happy...went off sad.

I was not busy...

so I said "lets play a game"...

A real "old fashion game"....

He is good and I am good at playing it...

so it was a nice challenge(for both of us).

Getting Things Done?

OK....

I read alot of decluttering and organizing blogs...alot!

I think the reason I read these is:

1) to keep motivated(I live in a huge 2 story house)

2) I really want to get rid of things that we don't need

and to keep things in their places.

What I don't care for is the "distressed look"...

I know people in "NEW" houses want this look.

Seems to me...on EVERYTHING....oh well.

Personally...

it "stresses me out"...ha,ha

And this is why...

my house is almost 100 years old and is already "stressed" enough.

It needs some TLC...

Our house has been "lived in"

and is a rework in progress.

BUT...

With that said...

I am very Thankful for a house to live in and a place to lay my head at night.

SO...

I guess I "work on" getting things done.

Book Review...THE VOW

In my last post I talked about reading a "good book"...

I just finished one.

Its called

"The Vow"

by Kim & Krickett Carpenter

I had not heard of their story...

until my daughter was telling me about

the movie(soon to be in theaters)

I like to read...

I really like a story that is true.

So...

I got the book from the library...

I read it in a afternoon and evening.

Yep...could not put the book down.

Its happy, its sad...

its a miracle from God

that Krickett survived the car accident that her and her husband were in.

I looked them up....

Confession Time.....I am a Blog Reader

It is Confession Time...

The REAL reason that I don't get more blog post done is that...

I spend time reading other blogs...ALOT of time!

I just start reading...

and before I know it...

minutes...hours have passed by(maybe not all at once).

BUT...

the blogs are like "reading a good book"...

you just don't want to put it down.

As you can see to the right of this post,

that I follow a "few" blogs...

well maybe...quite a few!

Some are about people and what is going on in their lives,

others about saving money and where to find "good deals",

blogs about crafty and fun ideas.

I just "love" the blog world and all the knowledge you can receive...

my head gets soooo full sometimes that its hard to process it all.

I am thankful for the "blog friends" that I have made.

I would ♥ love♥ to hear from you.

I want to let you know that

I have been going solo on this blog...

Mommy1

has flown the coop...

she actually has 3 other blogs/websites that she is doing:

I am sad that she is not doing posts here...

just have different ideas that we wanted to blog about...so she expanded.
Afterall we may someday share grandchildren....
thats how this blog got started in the first place....
(thus the name)
My daughter was getting married to her son
(they have been married 16 months now)
So...
with all that said...
the blog will continue...
its looks like it might need a new name...
thinking on that...
too.

Shopping Highs and Lows

Recently(actually Saturday) I was out shopping...

I know Saturday is usually not a "good" day to shop...

BUT...

there was a home football game at the University...

and

EVERYONE

(except me and a few people)

were at the game.

ANYWAY....

I noticed....(I was pretending NOT to)

that there is already Christmas decorations being put up at the stores.

And the worst part is...you can buy them too.

WELL....

like I have said before...

I am in the FALL mood...

so this Christmas stuff did not go well with me at all.

BUT....

you can get Fall and Thanksgiving decorations way cheap...

up to 60 and 70% off.

(but...you had better hurry if you want some)

So...

I guess some Christmas stuff around is not too bad.

I think...that next time I am at the store

(since I have my fall stuff)

that I may even look at the Christmas decorations.

And pick up a few items(since its are on sale too).

Snowy Saturday

Yes... indeed...

We woke up to snow....

a nice snow...I guess a "dusting".

We are not ready for a major snow...

(being that we hardly had summer and we are just getting use to it being fall)

We will glad except a major snow after Thanksgiving

(and the Black Friday sales).

Hey...

speaking of sales...they are everywhere...

even being able to save a dollar or two here and there.

Especially if it is unexpected.

I have a friend that sells Avon...

I look through the catalog...

seeing what I might "need"...now or in the future.

Several months back I saw slippers...

and thought...

my slippers can be worn for a little while longer...

But...the price is good (same as the major discount store where I HATE to shop),

and I am buying them from my friend.

So....

I ordered 2 pairs....

Blue and Lavender....

And today.....

I opened up the lavender pair and put them on.....oh nice!

My last pair of slippers had to be tossed today

....the soles were falling off and I was afraid of tripping.

Now my feet are snuggy warm on this snowy day.

Thankful for Thankful Thursday

And...

With Thanksgiving just around the corner(3 weeks away).

I am Thankful(most of the time).

Here are just a few of the things that I am Thankful for:

1) For my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ...who died for me.

2) My Parents

3)My hard working husband of almost 35 years

4) My children(cause they are going to look after me when I get old)

5) My grandchildren...they are the blessings of having children

6) My Pastor, his Wife and my church "family"

7) Good friends that care about me by praying and loving me.

8) Having a healthy body

9) Having a home, food and clothing

10) Having reliable vehicles

11) Freedom and living in America

These are just a few things I am Thankful for.

Everyone Loves A Bargin....

Did that get your attention?

Well it does for me everytime...

But...

What exactly is a bargin?

For me it is getting a good deal on what you are looking for...

It could be anything...

Food, clothing, furniture,electronics, going out for dinner...just to name a few.

So...you decide(in your mind)...

How much you are willing to pay for something...

Do you want it NOW...

Do I wait ~~patiently~~ to see if it will be just a little less next time.

I know it is hard to wait sometimes...

But it may be well worth it...

Here is my recent example:

Shopping for a camera for my daughter for her birthday...

She had one picked out at Costco...

I looked at the price EVERYTIME I went in the store.

(Now...Costco has some perks...

We have Executive membership...

we spend enough to pay for our membership

and usally get some money back...

which means...we get paid for shopping at Costco!)

So...the birthday is getting closer...

the camera has an instant rebate...

I get it cheaper than planned and before the birthday.

Yea!!!!

That is not the end of the story..

like I said, I look at the price everytime I go in the store.

2 weeks later...

I look at the price...it is $30 cheaper!

In the back of my mind...I think...

doesn't Costco have some policy...

that if a product is cheaper than

what you bought it for you can get it for that price.

So...

I ask...and yes...within 30 days of purchase!

Double yea!!!

SO...

sometimes it pays...

not to be in a hurry...

And check prices(especially on big items)

AND...

Look for rebates(instant are the best)...

and coupons(they are everywhere)...

BUT...

I will save coupons for another time...

Hello! I am kinda hacking my Mom's blog . . . ok,

well it doesn't really count as hacking, I asked her,

and she said yes! But does that still count as a hack?

Anywho . . . I should probably tell you who I am first.

That is just me being hyper :) and I am hyper pretty much ALL of the time!

Looking Out my Window One Morning....

I have a huge picture window in my kitchen

that looks out to the backyard,

I will stand in my kitchen

and look at the things in my backyard...

the pretty green grass, the tomato plants, the lavender plants, the sunflowers...

You kinda get the idea....

Well...

the other morning I was looking out...

and this is what I saw...

OK...

Hmmmmm....

(The search said it could be like marijuiana or even LSD)

Busy Times....Where has the Summer gone?

I have had my new PC (thank you hubby) since a week ago last Saturday...

This is Mommy 1. I am at Mommy 2's house playing on her new computer while she is ministering at the nursing home with her family.

Mommy 2 is a true friend. She knows a couple of things I love to eat...she cooked them. She knows something that makes me feel rich...she bought it for me. She knew it was my daughter Shineylocks' 16th birthday and we would be away from home...she planned a party.

Mommy 2 has many gifts. I think in the last 6 months, I have leaned on her mercy, her kindness, her loyalty and selflessness more than ever in our relationship. Mommy 2, I thank God for you!

Ok....

Sent me on a Mission this morning...

Google Lavender....

I found out that people spell it differently...

(that wasn't the reason I googled it...just a side note)

I was suppose to find out if I could grow it as a houseplant...

I found out that the best kind to grow in the house is the French variety...

I had bought some of the English...

So...these are "headed" outside today..to be planted.

Time has flown...

really it has...

wasn't I just 18 last year...

getting ready to graduate from high school...

getting engaged, then married 6 months later...

Having one baby several years later, then eventually 7 more...

I ponder these things & more...

not everyday...but often.

Today I was thinking about how nice the weather is...

then got to thinking about the things to do this week, next week, this month, this year...

So....we need a balance here...

on what lies behind & what lies ahead....

while consentrating on the present & what needs to be done.

Setting daily goals is always a good start...

Getting out of bed is a good thing to do...

And is the thing we must do each and every day.

Next should be

our time spent with the Lord Jesus Christ in Bible reading and prayer.

Asking the Lord what we should do for the day.

I like to "think" if the Lord wills...we will do such & such today

Or in the future...

Because sometimes no matter how much we plan to do something,

the Lord Jesus may have something else for us to do.

I have been thinking about the tornado victims...

I am sure they did not get up that morning

and say:

"Today looks like a good day for my house to be hit by a tornado."

We should plan for the future, but look to the Lord Jesus to guide us.

By putting ourselves and plans aside...

we may see some people that need our help.

People that need to hear about Jesus and how He can save them.

I will be praying for you that read this

and

those people that you could make a difference in their lives.

Stuck in a Rut OR the Price of Procrastination

I have been thinking lately about

the things I don't get done

and why.

So...

These are some Random thoughts...

in no particular order.

Here goes...

Messes are made...and never cleaned up.

Bills don't get paid.

Chores don't get done.

Projects are never completed.

Things stay the same.

You don't take care of Yourself.

Things don't get done...

plans, vacations, schooling.

Your house stays the same...

never gets cleaned or organized,

repairs don't get done.

New things are not tried.

Recipes don't get made or even tried.

Letters don't get written...

phone calls don't get made.

Children grow up too fast...

you don't do everything you wanted to do with them.

Kind words are not spoken.

Forgiveness is not asked for...

grudges are held.

What are your thoughts on the above?

Please let us know.

Today....
Some of the Grandchildren
were
at my house.

The Coppertops and their little brother

came over for the day
and to spend the night.

Bells(age 3) came up to me and she said...

"Can I paint your nails"...

so being a Grandma....I said yes.
She told me several times to "hold still"
and
"oooops"
while painting them.
Bells got a lot of nail polish for her birthday, last month.
So she is sharing it with me.
Boy... does nail polish smell...

It has been nice knowing you and glad that you came for a stay...

we didn't think it would be this long...

We are tired of the long dreary cold rainy/snowy days....

we could use a little sunshine, please !!!

Conoco Mega Loads....On Roads...Near Me

Ok...

Looks like they need to replace some light bulbs...

These parked next to the interstate...

We DID NOT stop...

These Loads have been traveling...

very slowly from 12am-6am...

for several days through my State...

Last night...

they traveled right next to my house

on the highway...

Here are the trucks...all lit up.

The trucks came by my house around 1am.

Cowboy and I were the only ones at my house to see them.

Everyone else slept right through the lights and noise.

I am glad that I stayed up...

so I could tell you about it.

Spring Like Weather...Our Outing...

Hey...

I am back...

Day 2...

It was at least 50 degrees today!

Yea!!!

So my husband and I

and

the three youngest children ventured out of the house...

We had some errands to run...

1) Cowboy needed a haircut(really bad).

2) I wanted to get the van washed & vacuumed out.

(after all thats what you do in the spring)

3) We needed to pick up a FEW things @ Walmart ...

I say few...because it is getting expensive to shop there,

especially for a few items...plus the checkout lines are usually very long.

(So I "had to" force my self to go there)

My husband...

was soooo kind as to drop the girls & I off @ the door to Walmart,

then he and Cowboy headed off to get the van washed.

The girls went and "shopped" together,

I did my shopping & was done & ready to go...

they were no where in site...

so I went & waited @ the front of the store...

I text (the joy of texting) 2 of my older daughters...

telling them I was in Walmart, waiting on their 2 younger sisters.

The girls I had been waiting for showed up a short time later

(with items to be purchased)

We headed toward the cash registers...

Giving one daughter my cell phone & said

...call your Dad...

& tell him we are @ the check out.

My daughter gets off the phone & says...

Dad is vacuuming the van...

Oh...

Now what?

We go through the checkout...

$$$ later...

and go sit on a bench...

where we can see Dad when he finally gets there.

I pull out my cell phone

& proceed to play the game Tetris.

The girls were people watching...

some times they would say...look Mom.

So that was some of what we did today...

I've been on a Trip South & back...

The Blog is still here and I am here too.

Everyone is wishing that Winter would be over...

I am enjoying each day...

Has gotten me motivated to get posting again.

I got to read a book!

Recently, I did something I haven't done for months, perhaps not for years. I let the dishes mellow in the sink, put the children to bed, begged my beloved's indulgence and read a book in one sitting. I read The Real Enemy, by Kathy Herman.

This book was a good companion for a suspense hungry soul. I took an immediate liking to Brill (short for Brilliant, a moniker she earned as an investigator in Memphis). Brill lives the dilemma that many female police officers know very well.. She is constantly stretched too thin on the home front, to the detriment of her children and husband. She is wooed with the temptation at work to over invest herself for the thrill of the chase and her sense of responsibility to the community. I want to take Brill under my wing and give her some motherly advice. I want to tell her to go home and hold her child and kiss her husband.

Devoid of the benefit of my advice, Brill weaves herself into the warp of a superstitious and sometimes distrusting community, Sofie Trace, without the solace of her husband Kurt and with little interaction from her children. Due to Kurt's brief, adulterous affair in the past, Brill allows herself to be spun in an ever widening path that leads away from home. At work, the press, the "Good ole boy" Sheriff and the handsome FBI agent from her past all grapple at what is left of her.

In the midst of this heart crumble is a terrible crime that grows more unthinkable every day. How is one person able to withstand all these opposing pressures? How does a suffering family stay together? You will have to read to find out if Kurt's repentant commitment and the tender heart of the last child at home are enough to keep Brill anchored in her home. Is Brill's faith in God strong enough to keep her from temptation? Who, or what is causing the good people of Sofie Trace to disappear?

Be careful as you follow Brill and Kurt around Sofie Trace. The rules seem to be changing. Shadows from the past and the smokescreens of a new group of criminals swirl together. Who is perpetrating this evil? Are they living or dead? Is anyone safe? Even your next door neighbors could be in danger.

As much as I enjoyed this book and look forward to the rest of the trilogy (anybody have them to loan?) I do hope Ms. Herman will sculpt the support characters in the next books with a little more depth and reality. If so, I think it will be like scooping out of the vanilla and into the strawberry and chocolate in the neopolitan ice cream. I scream...for more time with Brill and Kurt.

I Have New Neighbors

I have the sweetest young couple living near me. Lost in Space and Lost in a Dream are now married and living about 1/2 mile from me. I think I will give them a couple name too. Let's call them the Soul Mates. Anyway, they are now my neighbors. It is a blessing to have them here. I see my daughter in law a little more than I see my son because he is working away from the home and she is a homemaker. I have been able to entice her up to my house a few times, but she has been pretty well occupied with her new role of wife and homemaker. Lost in a Dream is diligent and creative. We are thrilled to see her spoiling our son and also thrilled to see how proud he is of his wife's accomplishments.

The Soul Mates' home is sweet and wholesome. They have already opened their home for ministry, entertainment and fellowship. It is such a pleasure to see them enjoying each other and maturing in their relationship. I am amazed at the things they are accomplishing so early in their marriage. They are good examples to all of us.

Thanks for being our neighbors, Soul Mates!

Hey...

Sorry there hasn't been new posts lately...

I think Mommy1 and I have recovered

and

are adjusting

to our children being married.

We love it that they are married...

no more chaperoning for us.

(though I do miss the dinner & movies they took me too)

But ...

I miss my daughter...

my husband even said as much the other day.

We don't get to see her everyday...we can still text or call

(she lives an hour away now)

there is a room at my house being filled with other things...

things that no longer belong to my daughter

We are Happy for her,

But sad for us.

Hey all! This is Shineylocks reporting for Mommy1. As you all know, Lost in Space and Lost in a Dream will soon be wed. (Only eleven more days, wow!) Mommy 1, being the mother of the groom, was faced with the difficult task of finding something to wear to the wedding. This may sound easy, but believe me - it's not! She searched high and low for a suitable dress, but there seemed no hope for this poor M.O.G. Finally, when all hope seemed lost, and she was contemplating wearing Carhartts, she found the dress. This dress seemed a Godsend, not being electric green or made of tin foil. Needless to say she ordered the dress, and I am proud to announce that our dear Mommy 1 will not have to attend her first born son's big day clad in a beach towel. Here is the dress.

Let me tell you the story of the Three Little Baskets...

Well...

Once Upon a time

there was Three Little Baskets...

Somewhere...

So the Mother of the Bride

(having nothing else to do with her time)

Set out to find those Three Little Baskets.

She looked high and low...

at Thrift Stores and New Stores.

Gathering the Baskets did she...

Good thing that she actually likes Baskets...

cause now she has a plenty...liking everyone she bought.

But none were matching...

so still looking for the perfect basket...

she came upon Three Little White Baskets.

They were brand new...

but still needed some "love".

So...she took those little baskets and painted them

and gave them a nice shine.

Now they are happy little baskets,

waiting to walk down the aisle

with those Three Little Girls

on September 4.

Wedding Countdown and Trip Update

Wedding countdown is....31 days until the BIG day!

I am at my oldest daughters house....

8 hours away...from my house

with my 2 youngest children...

we brought 4 young people from our church to go to camp for a week.

We drove down on Saturday...

in my mini van that seats 7...

we were packed in there...

siblings bickering in the back seat of the van.

Yes...it was quite the ride here...

up a mountain or 2...

winding roads...

Running over a rock with my van on a mountain road.

Making it to my daughters house...fretting about the van.

Got the van "looked at"...

it had a loose dripping transmission gasket...

got it tightened no more drips.Yea!

It was a BIG Praise God that that was all that was wrong with it!

I am enjoying my "vacation".

I finally found a dress to wear to the wedding yesterday...Whew!

I was out shopping by myself when I found it....big WOW!

It is perfect...I felt "good" when I put it on.

Its navy blue,made with light weight shimmery material.

Now to find some shoes...

I wish I could post some pictures of it...

but I haven't gotten a new camera yet.

Where We Have Been....

Its Now Summer Here...

Meaning...

that now the weather is warm and getting warmer,

We that live in the Rocky Mountains,

think its vacation time...

So I guess we have had a "vacation from the blog" too.

Actually...

there just hasn't been the time.

My family rarely takes time away from home.

Though my husband decided on Sunday July 18

that we were going to travel (meaning in the car)

2 states away to see ill and aging parents.

So our trip began on Friday evening from our home,

we traveled about 6 hours away, then slept for the night.

Started the next morning and reached our parents city at 11:30pm.

We stayed 2 days , travel back, 2 days...

getting in at 1am this morning.

So I am tired.

I will be headed(in another direction) to visit my oldest daughter on Saturday,

I am taking my 4 youngest children.

We will stay one week at her house then return home.

In the meantime...

the count down for the wedding is 36 days...

So all the last minute things to be done.

Family and friends that will be here for the wedding.

So thats where I have been.

As you already know by now, I am getting old. Youth seems SO young to me now and my elders so much less elderly these days. I have recently had the privilege of attending two bridal showers for my soon to be daughter in law. At these showers I have been surrounded by young Christian women that have been a total inspiration. I was humbled and delighted by the interaction of these young women.

I tried to remember who I was at their various ages and I didn't compare favorably with any of them. There is so much talk about how our society and young people are deteriorating and I know it is true in many circles. I feel for directionless unmotivated youth. I am astonished sometimes at what depths young people will stoop to today. But this week, I was thrilled to watch and listen to young women who have inner strength, direction, sincerity and self control. I am pleased to be accepted into their circle and thankful to be able to see the direction that their lives are headed.

You girls know who you are. Thank you for being such good examples for all of us. Thanks for being good friends, sisters, mothers and daughters. I am very thankful for you.

Still Thankful After All These Years

I will turn 50 this year. I am pretty excited about it. I never dreamed I would live to be this old. I am thankful to be growing old with the love of my life. When we were first married we used to talk a lot about growing old together. We would tease that the romance wouldn't die as long as someone would push our wheelchairs close together enough that we could touch pinkies! Well we are still a ways out from the wheelchairs, or at least my beloved is. I may be there any day now. Anyway, we aren't in the nursing home yet, but we are aging. Even though we still have little children, there is no doubt that the person who looks back at me from the mirror is getting old. Not just older...old.

Sir Dashing, in spite of the eternally collegiate way that he has about him, has silver hair. Though he still can do much more than I can in terms of work and being the Knight in shining armor, he too is slowing down. Here's the deal. I am so thankful that he is not coloring his hair or having things nipped and tucked. I like that he doesn't mind being grandfatherly. I love that he didn't have a midlife crisis, never bought a sports car or had hair implants or was attracted to a younger woman. Now that we have both passed midlife (our children remind us that there aren't many 100 year old folks around), I am so very grateful that Sir Dashing doesn't mind me getting old. I am not aging gracefully. I have been around some tough corners and each one has etched it's mark on my life. Thank God my husband is okay with that and can still appreciate me.

I can have the grayest of gray hair, I can have deep and numerous laugh lines, I can sag, I can limp, I can require expensive medical care and my beloved still looks at me with that look that tells me he's blind! He still likes me! What a blessing. He either doesn't see that old woman that I visit with in the mirror or for some reason, he just likes that old gal. Either way, I am freer than I have ever been to be the person the Lord designed me to be. I don't have to pretend, or to try to stuff myself in another person's mold. I am very thankful for that. I am so very thankful.

Sir Dashing and I have had our bumps in the road. Both of us have been difficult to love at times, but we have always had a deep relationship that was never based on a clothing size or the color of hair. Though we were once young and beautiful (if only to each other) somehow, we never hung our love there. It was always tossed like an ever widening lariat loop, encompassing whatever the other person was or became. Now the loop encircles aging. Some day it will be frailty, perhaps one of our memories will fail and at some point one of us will continue without the other. I am so thankful that all of these options are still within the boundaries of a romantic and epic love affair. We are writing it as we go along and to me it is a precious thing.

Sir Dashing, you are my knight, my hero and my friend. Keep that pinky reserved for me. Oh yeah, thanks for the M&M's!

As I think about July 4th...

I think about the traditions

that my family had

when I was growing up....

This was way before the Huge Fireworks Displays

that are prevalent today.

I recall going to the fireworks stand...

I remember wanting to go the day it was set up.

We bought neat things like

Pop Rocks, black snakes,smoke bombs,

Sparklers and pop bottle rockets.

Roman candles and the shooting fountains

were the highlight back then.

We would also buy Rootbeer and Ice Cream

in preparation for making Rootbeer Floats

as we watched the Fireworks.

On July 4th...

My brother and I could hardly wait for it to get dark.

We would keep pestering our parents all day long...

when will it be time to invite our neighboors over

to drink Rootbeer Floats

and watch all the neat Fireworks that we had purchased.

So...

As it finally got dark enough...

my brother and I would go and tell

all our elderly neighboors that it time to come over.

After each one was settled...

My Dad would proceeded to light each

Roman Candle and Fountain.

We would take the sparklers and light them and write our names.

I loved watching each sparkly Firework.

But...It was done all to soon.

Now with July 4th

only a few days away my children...namely Cowboy

has been wanting to and been to the Fireworks Stand,

and working on getting all the Fire Crackers lit and exploded.

I was the neighboorhood children's Supervisor

for the Fireworks yesterday...

So it made me think about when I was a child...

thus this post.

What Happens When We Forget Things...

So...

a couple of weeks ago

I needed to bake some cookies.....

for a church potluck and to send

on the church bus that picks up

children for Sunday School.

I wanted to use a chocolate chip recipe...

not just your usual one...

but one where one of the ingredients is:

INSTANT pudding.

Me...being forgetful person that I am...

forgot the pudding and chocolate chips

while out on that Saturday afternoon.

TechoGuy was home and was headed into town...

so I asked him if could pick up these 2 items for me...

He said: Ya, sure.

I wrote down the 2 items: chocolate chips and instant vanilla pudding...

I said: make SURE the pudding is INSTANT.

Hours later....

TechoGuy returns with my items...

I look in the bag and remove them....

Chocolate chips...Check

Pudding....looking carefully at the box...it reads: COOK and Serve....

WHAT !!!

Running to find TechnoGuy (who is outside)...

I say...you got the wrong kind of pudding...

He says..."well Mom its the only kind I could find"...

I am now panicking...

cause I have cookies to bake and its 9:30 on a Saturday night!

So....me being upset....

now I know most of you never do this....

but I race to my van, jump in and head to the store myself !

(I even forgot my cell phone ).

I get to the store....walk in....

past the long stemmed flowers and potted plants....

looking and stiffing as I go by...

but wait...there is one of my favorite kinds of flowers...

carnations....potted ones...the spicy smelling purple ones...

then thinking to myself....I came to get INSTANT pudding...

so off I go to get that pudding,

then returning to the plants,

I grab up the lovely smelling carnation plant...

Off the the checkout,

then home.

I walk in the house carrying my wonderful new plant.

My nine year old is standing there...

I ask him where his Dad is...

My son then says...are the flowers for Dad....I laugh a little then head off to the kitchen.

You see my dear husband had been a little grumpy earlier...

So....now present time:

I now tell my husband that I did buy the flowers for him...

BTW...

that night I was up until 11:30 baking cookies.

If anyone wants the recipe I will share that later.

Thankful Thursday

Today, I am very thankful for my Warm Feelings brand wool blanket from LL Bean. Years ago, I took some windfall money and purchased a wool blanket for every member of the family. This spring, I have been very glad I bought them. Today, as I write, I am wrapped in a yellow one and I am very thankful for its warmth. One of the reasons Sir Dashing and I prefer to live in the Northwest is the freedom from the heat and humidity we grew up with in the South. This year, however, I would have liked to average our temperatures with those of my hometown in Alabama. Anyway, I am thankful for this yellow blanket.

I am very thankful for the ability to read. I am thankful for my Bible. I am often encouraged by the wisdom hidden there. Just think, my Father in Heaven left a letter for me. Though I haven't yet seen Him, he has written through the pens of inspired men, a manual or a map of how to find Him. What an exciting thing to have! The creator of the Universe corresponded with me!

I am also grateful for other books. I particularly love historical accounts of people who have endured great hardship. I have often read accounts of the holocaust. I am so glad that people chose to write about their experiences. Even so, there are those who would rewrite history to claim that this travesty never happened. Thankfully there is written and photographic evidence to remind us what unchecked power is capable of.

I am thankful for hot chocolate. (You knew that was coming!) Seriously, in the last few weeks, we have had some hot cocoa powder that was given to us by a friend. What a comfort when it is chilly and damp to be able have a steaming mocha or hot cocoa. I feel blessed on this blustery day with my yellow blankie, my little daughter snuggled up looking at a book and a steamy mug of hot cocoa.

I hope, regardless of your weather, you can snuggle up with someone you love today. If you live alone, take time to get to know your maker. He is there waiting for an opportunity to fellowship with you. Welcome Him in.

Well...

We are counting down to

Lost in Space and Lost in a Dream's

Wedding...

85 days...

It may seem like all summer...

but we have things that need to be done...

For example...

the bridesmaid dresses that they were going to order

are not available...

So...

Lost in a Dream

is going to, and has actually started making them.

She has been taking sewing classes

from a

kind lady from our church.

She has 4 to make,

all the girls live in our area.

Ring bearer pillow to be made.

Veil to be purchased.

We have her bridal gown.

Invitations to be bought.

Cakes to be made.

We are making cupcakes.

Trips to be taken...

to the local stores

and out of town.

Siblings clothing...

to be purchased or made or rented.

I need to find a dress, shoes & some jewelery.

Looking, looking, looking...

Plus...

Lost in a Dream will be working.

We will have regular activities and summer stuff to do...

I must keep looking at the calendar...

things to keep up on.

So...

Off to Alaska

Yesterday, Mommy2 and Lost In A Dream drove Lost in Space to an airport in another state and deposited him into his adult life. Though he has been independent and hard working his whole life, this time he packed his bag was the last time he would do this as our dependent son. Lost in Space flew to Alaska just as he did last year to fish the sockeye season in Bristol Bay. We are so proud of him and so excited for him. This year though, with no fanfare, when he walked out the door, he walked into the role of a provider, preparing to soon be a husband. It amazes me when the big steps come in our young people's lives that they seem so matter of fact. Lost in Space gave hugs all around and walked out as he has a thousand times before. But this time he won't walk back in in the same way as he has before.

After fishing for 6 to 8 weeks, he will come back to his new rental that he will soon share with Lost in a Dream. He will then be our neighbor. He will have his own lawn to care for, his own utilities to pay and his own precious bride to share life with. From the rental house, the two of them will continue building their home. It is such a blessing to witness them planning their home and their lives. The honeymoon in Ireland, the laughing and hopeful conversations about how many children they will have and what they will accomplish, all take me back to those days in my own life. I know that the paths they are planning to walk may take some unexpected turns, but I also know that through true love and commitment that those unexpected turns can be the most beautiful parts of the journey.

Quietly, without fanfare, our lives changed forever yesterday. My son's life and the life of his future bride changed as well. After one last time of separation, they will be at the finish line for their courtship and at the threshold of their marriage. This time, watching this precious one go, it hurt my heart more for Lost in a Dream than for myself. She has paid the price of commitment, perseverance and dedication. She has been a good friend to Lost in Space as well as to the rest of the family. She has shared his time and attention, by necessity, probably more than she would have liked to, but soon there will be no more sharing. The two of them will belong to each other, forsaking all others. They will know the exhilaration of being a young married couple. What a wonderful thing just over the horizon!

Lost in Space, your parents are proud of you. We are happy for you and excited about your future. We are so happy that you chose Lost in a Dream for your beloved. We look forward to witnessing something beautiful as we attend your wedding. We know it will be a blessing to see you set up a home and begin a family with Lost in a Dream. You have done a good job thus far and we anticipate that you will continue to as you make decisions and plans as a husband.

Lost in a Dream, thank you for loving our son and for loving us. We are proud of you and thankful that our son chose you. Thank you for your purity, industry and gentle spirit. We are excited about having you as our daughter in law and we look forward to getting to know you even better.

There are many seasons in life. It is always an encouragement to see our young people choosing wisely as they enter the springtime of their adult lives. We see beautiful blossoms and know that there will be sweet fruit as they live their lives together for the glory of God.

Just Recently...

My Parents moved from the house

that they built

and

that I lived in until I got married.

They decided that house and the yard

were getting too much

for them to take care of.

They now live

at a

Senior Living Community.

I got the recent

Newsletter

from where they are living.

I showed it to

Mommy1...

she said that she wanted to live there.

(It is very nice)

The letter had:

Shiny paper , color photos...very well done

with all kinds of neat stuff...

One of the things that I liked

was that it had menu for the month.

You know why I liked this...

is that I don't really like to

figure out what to cook.

So...

I guess we will be

eating from the "Senior Menu"

That the calendar to the right

Has had a mind of its own...

One day it will say the correct month...

The next time I look it says March,

Today as I am Typing this...

Its says April.

This is really has been the way

Our weather has been...

One day it really feels like May,

I have lived in

the Rocky Mountains

for almost 23 years.

And I still forget that we really don't have Spring,

Its just all of a sudden...

And its Summer !

It looks like my Irises will be blooming

Thankfully it is Thursday!

Today is a particularly thankful Thursday for me. Sir Dashing comes home from a week long walkabout. He, after driving his mom to Alabama where she is relocating, stayed a week to visit with Big Army Man and Lanky Guy and their precious children. He has had a week of being "Paw Paw" to the sweetest grandchildren on Earth (I know Mommy 2 will disagree.) Today, though, he is coming back to be our knight in shining armor. The children are getting excited, talking about a welcome home menu and the little ones are drawing pictures and writing letters. So, to top my list today, I am thankful that I have a living, flesh and blood husband on this Earth. I look forward to being in the same zip code with him.

I am thankful for a warmer morning today. Like Mommy 2 we are out of wood and the house has been cold lately. Today dawned bright and clear and already we are warmer than we got yesterday. I thank God for seasons. I thank Him for the rain and also for the beautiful sunny days. I am thankful for shade trees in summer, for a steep roof when heavy snows come and for a view that makes my heart soar any time of the year!

I am thankful for cheese making! It is like magic to me to see my own fresh goat's milk through the wonder of culture and acidification turn into fresh curds and whey, then gradually shedding moisture and growing flavor to become fresh cheese, or feta in brine and sometimes pressed into rounds and put to age in my cheese fridge. (The results of my aged cheeses are still unknown, but ask me again in two months.) I am thankful for the ability to save the nutrition from milk that is so abundant in spring and summer to use later in the year. It makes me happy to know that this winter when milk is scarce, if God blesses my efforts, my family will have cheese.

I suppose I am thankful for goats a lot! Every day I feel so blessed to have these gentle little creatures who can turn weeds into milk. They are family pets and sweet natured companions. As the "poor man's cow" they provide for our family in a sustainable and affordable way. I could probably buy milk at the store a little cheaper than I can keep goats, but the cooler in the market is not as cute and friendly as our goats. It also won't climb on your car!

Once again, I am thankful for this blog and Mommy 2 who encouraged me to get here and sweetly encourages me to keep writing. I am thankful for you, dear reader, because you give your valuable time to read what I write. Oh and where did my children hide those chocolate chips?

We have used most of our wood supply...

so we are ready for it to be warm...

with just a little bit of sunshine...

Wordless Wednesday.....Is Spring Really Here ?

Making Memories

"Memories...like the corners of my mind, misty water colored memories, of the way we were." That song was drifting around in my mind as I was washing a few dishes tonight. (How did those lyrics get there from so long ago?) Today, May 17, Mommy 2 and her 5 youngest children came and spent the day on our little ranch. It was the day before Cowboy's 9th birthday (Happy Birthday, Cowboy) and he wanted to ride Cutie, our paint mare. So the Mommy 2 crew drove the hour to the Mommy 1 view early in the morning. No dads were there, Sir dashing was on a long trip and Mommy 2's husband was working.

Techno guy and Mr. Inquisitive, fired up the grill and made us wonderful veggie filled meatloaf burgers. Both of these fellows are grillers extraordinaire. The dog enjoyed a couple that got a little crisp and we devoured the others.

The girls from both families made triple chocolate cupcakes for Cowboy's party. They also made strawberry and orange Julius's for themselves and their younger siblings.
Mommy 2 made a delicious meal of fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, and green beans. It was wonderful, one of my favorite of her meals and to have her cook it in my kitchen was even better.

In addition to eating, our young people played card games on the living room floor and they rode horses. Some worked on repairing a shed and helped with gardening and mowing. Then they went to play in the river. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! There were lots of wet clothes, dirty jeans and boots, dirty dishes and laughter.

I am very thankful for the opportunity to fellowship with such exceptional young people, including the star couple, Lost In Space and Lost in a Dream, who made wedding plans and honeymoon plans when they were not supervising swimming siblings. I pray that these lovely times will remind us all when difficulties come, just how much we need the love and interaction of our friends. I pray that my children will remember being loved and encouraged and just having some fun as they were growing up.

Friendships for a lifetime, fellowship for eternity and we get to enjoy it now too!

Thankful again

I am writing this Thankful Thursday post as I do many things...a little late. So, if this is almost Thankful Friday for you, I apologize. I am thankful for a lot of things. This past week I was able to make a batch of Mozzarella cheese with two of my friends. Even though I find Mozzarella a little tricky (it is hard to get the ph just right) it turned out passably well. This means that my family ate it, which is another blessing!

I am also thankful for coupons! Nope, I don't coupon, but Mommy 2 does and she blesses me with the things she buys. This week it was cereal and ravioli mainly. My children were thankful for those items and they don't even know about Thankful Thursday!

Always, Sir Dashing, my longsuffering husband is a blessing to me. This week in particular we have had a lot of stress in our lives and he has remained caring and kind. It is hard not to be thankful for a man like that.

I am thankful for a hot bath, for a comfy bed, for blankets, for a breeze and windows that open. I am thankful I get to have pets. I am thankful my children like me and each other. I am always thankful that God is faithful and trustworthy and that I am not at the mercy of some creator-less cosmic force that doesn't love me and know me.

As usual, I am thankful for chocolate!

Both of us have a had a very busy weekend...

Her and her family live an hour away from where

we both attend church.

Our church had a youth rally on Friday & Saturday.

There drove home Friday night

(they have animals that need to be tended to)

and then back again very early Saturday morning.

(Even before me...I live way closer to church than she does)

Mommy1 is my Hero...

she keeps on going....

even when she should take it easy.

I love her dearly...

Most people who meet her do.

So....

Her dear husband has taken

her on a mini Vacation.

That is why you are reading my ramblings...

She will be back soon...

to write words of wisdom...
